Writers are in many ways more susceptible to Carpal Tunenl Syndrome than other demographics, simply because the act of writing or typing can cause strain to the wrist and hands. CTS is known to be caused by reptitive, strenuous hand/wrist movements. Women are also more likely to suffer, and the average age CTS hits is in one's early 40s. Here are some tips on avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

Practice simple Carpal Tunnel Exercises, starting with stretching of the shoulders, elbows, arms, wrists and then fingers.

Try to keep your hands warm if you're suffering from any pain, which is more likely to occur if your hands are cold. Fingerless gloves are an option if your work environment isn't kept at a comfortable temperature.

Watch your posture! When you slouch, your shoulders roll and your nerves can become compressed. Get up and stretch or walk around to give your back, and in turn your shoulders, arms and hands, a break.

Avoid wrist bending by adjusting the height of your keyboard/writing table. Chairs with adjustable height are handy!

Take a break! Give your hands a rest every few minutes. Remember, CTS is caused by reptitive movements. Changing up your routine a little will give you loads of relief in the long run.
